Should vpn_gateway be the default for OpenVPN?

Looks like the official OpenVPN android client (which used to work but I haven't used it in awhile) now also requires the 'vpn_client' option

:

02:12.212 -- exception parsing IPv4 route: [route] [192.168.2.0] [255.255.255.0] [10.8.0.1] : tun_prop_route_error: route destinations other than vpn_gateway or net_gateway are not supported

For easier 'out of the box' usage, should that be the default now in the OpenVPN client config?

I don't know if the same issue applies to router to router Configs? I think this is an implementation specific requirement for the apps on phones.

If using it for router to router Configs doesn't present any issues, I'm happy to make it the default.
