Re: TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND V7
is this correct?
connection basic:
1) configure device as gateway
2) connect via dhcp (wireless), wan ethernet port: bridge to lan
3) local network 192.168.1.1, 255.255.255.0 + allow clients to use alternate
4) wireless mode: client + ap
5) ssid to join: wlan name of dsl router + wpa2 pw
6) access point ssid: gargoyle ?
7) save changes
the ip of my dsl router is 192.168.2.1 subnet 255.255.255.0
ip of tp link router is 192.68.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0
which subnet mask i should change?
thx

Re: TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND V7
Did someone test this fw on aforementioned router? I want to put gargoyle on this but I'm reluctant until I know it works 100%
Re: TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND V7
Thank you so much guys!! esp. Nilist & nebbia
Gargoyle 1.5.4 now up on 841N v7.2
One moment of panic when, after executing the command to upgrade fw.bin to firmware, the router stopped responding and would not connect again. Then noticed that I had no IP address, so hoped that DHCP on the router was simply disabled. Yes! Set IP manually and voila - a wonderful, beautiful Gargoyle installation. Now I can stop inadvertent overage on our quota, and set (tiny) quotas for guest devices.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll set static IPs (or bind DHCP to the relevant MACs), then use a DHCP range outside of those IPs for guests, and set a quota rule for that guest range.
Thanks again - you guys rock!

Hi to all!Nilist wrote:
1. Downloaded the latest OpenWRT build for v7 from here:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd
2. Downloaded the Gargoyle v5 factory image
3. Installed the OpenWRT firmware through the TP-Link Web UI
4. The OpenWRT came without LuCI web interface, so used PuTTY to telnet to router to set password
5. Used WinSCP to upload Gargoyle v5 factory image firmware to /tmp and rename to fw.bin
6. Opened a terminal window in WinSCP and executed(as described in reverting to original firmware in link above)Code: Select all
mtd -r write /tmp/fw.bin firmware
That's it! Now running Gargoyle 1.4.5 on TL-WR841 v7.2 almost without touching Linux
I did exactly what Nilist said, except that my previus installation of openWRT already had a LuCi interface

So, when I restarded... I had a bricked router

No web interface, no DHCP... I think nothing at all! Leds are working.
The only thing I can do is enter in FailSafe mode and access telnet.
But, as far as i went, is useless.
Anyone has an idea?
Thanks,
ale
ps: my gargoyle file version was gargoyle_1.5.4-ar71xx-tl-wr841nd-v5-squashfs-factory.bin

De-bricked!
I used this guide https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=33906
and a serial console.

Re: TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND V7
Hi,
I am also using a TL-WR841N/ND V7 and installed openWRT from the trunk. Now I would like to install Gargoyle Packages but the online installation documentation points to kamikaze packages rather than the ones for backfire.
a) do the packages exist for backfire and where
b) did anybody successfully installed them on this device ?
Thanks, Stefan

Apply to WR-741NS v4.3 ?
I'm thinking to apply this technique to install V1/V2 Gargoyle in a V4.3 WR741ND.
The thing that strikes me as odd about this procedure for the WR841ND is that the Gargoyle image that gets installed is the "Gargoyle v5 factory image," rather than packages.
Is this procedure listed here necessary to get around a safety in the OEM firmware which prevents loading the Gargoyle image, and the Gargoyle image otherwise is ready to work with the V7 hardware?
In other words, is there anything from the V7 Openwrt firmware that stays in the WR841 the helps the V5 Gargoyle firmware run in the V7 hardware, or does the V5 Gargoyle have all that is needed, and the procedure is only necessary to get it loaded into the flash?
