try a "fail safe" reset then try configureRog66 wrote:complete factory settings - default password 192.168.1.1 ip address and no other settings remain

I don't believe itRog66 wrote:Have downgraded to the May build and that seems to reboot and reload settings fine - seems to be a problem with the June build
I suspect you will find a Fail safe reset would have fixed the problem?
Re: gargoyle-ispy 2016-June-03 19:21.torrent
You may be right but no matter what combination of button press I tried from the openwrt wiki I could not get the router into failsafe mode. I have upgraded to June from May this morning and everything seems stable so far so it does look like something got screwed when I originally wrote the firmware - 18 months of Merlin firmware has made me forget the tricks to employ. Am glad I've got a working Gargoyle based router again - thanks for all the work that goes into it !

spoke to soon - reset to factory defaults after adding a firewall restriction - other than issuing firstboot command what else needs to be done for a failsafe reset on this router?

re-flashing the firmware does the same thing and might be easierRog66 wrote:spoke to soon - reset to factory defaults after adding a firewall restriction - other than issuing firstboot command what else needs to be done for a failsafe reset on this router?

Reflashing was the first thing
I did. Had to break out my serial connection eventually yesterday after it wouldn't communicate. Am loathe to try adding the same restriction and see if it causes the same problem but may try after a few days.

Your router hardware might be stuffed?Rog66 wrote:Reflashing was the first thing

We need somebody else to confirm your problem.

I've seen some interesting firewall related crashes lately that result in a firstboot.
I think it's router related rather than gargoyle.
Probably fixed in DD.

Thanks Lantis
Glad it's not just me. I was able to add a time restriction but adding a rule to block dns caused the first boot and yesterday it resulted in a brick which required the serial connection to fix. This was on a brand new WRT1900ACS.
