I think the Unifi will give the biggest wifi range.

Gargoyle/Openwrt has a history of wifi issues

Hi about the Unifi, Do they have a user interface like luci? I red somewhere that you have to have a Java plugin and control software installed on your computer to use them. Java is shit with a screen reader so if so a Unifi wood be no good for me. I do keep hearing good things about them tho. Sorry for the thread jacking! :P

They have just a normal web GUI with basic settings as per usual.

But if you have many unifi routers on the one network you can install a dashboard controllers on a spare PC.

In theory you can monitor traffic etc.

In my opinion gargoyle beats it hands down (you can use both if you want)

if you only have one router (unifi) I don't think its worth running the power on a PC 24/7

Ok thanks for the info i was thinking about keeping my c7 as the router with gargoyle and putting a unifi in the loft space. Which AP is there latest model with ac? They dont seem to cost that much for what they are! I thort bing in the UK they wood cost me a arm and a leg.

I went with this option. Ordered the parts last night. Only one UniFi AP though at this stage.

Hopefully I don't get any issues with getting gargoyle onto the Archer C7 or with stability. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again for your help guys. Hopefully I can manage it okay from here.

No hard sell on this forum

Or though I do they to encourage people to purchase routers from Eric were possible.

The C7 router turned up through the week, so I flashed it that evening with ispy's 1.9.X (Built 20160421-1751 git@69fe773) version without any real trouble. The NBN guy came yesterday and set up the satellite service. Last night I got the UniFi AP operating and everything seems to be working fine so far.

Thanks again ispy and Lantis for your guidance.
