I intend to enable QoS on my Netgear WNDR3700 router running Gargoyle so as to support my VoIP phone (Gigaset A510-IP) that I have just purchased.
The information in this thread is very useful and it looks like I just need to set a service class of "VoIP" on the IP address of my VoIP base station, and make sure that the VoIP service class has a bandwidth of around 80 - 200 kbps specified to cater for one or two VoIP lines. I should normally have plenty of bandwidth available on my Cable internet service, at least until my teenagers start hammering their games and video downloads.
My question is about the Match Criteria that seem to come pre-configured with the Gargoyle setup. My QoS rule page looks just like Luddite's above, in that there are a number of other Match Criteria that were already listed such as "Source Port 80…", "Source Port 443…", "Source Port 53" etc. I don't know what these are for.
If QoS is not enabled, then I assume these settings do nothing. If I enable QoS for my VoIP box, then these will be enabled as well as the rule that I put in for my VoIP box. Do I need these other rules? Can I delete the rules to reduce my confusion? Would I miss out on anything if they were not there?
Thanks for listening.
