EDIT: To answer my own question for any future users the WZR-HP-G300NH2 uses its own specific firmware for 'NH2'. The WZR-HP-G300NH has 2 different chipsets with the RTL8366RB being the revised version of the G300NH. It is more of a v1a rather than getting confused with calling it a v2.
I am encountering the same problem with Gargoyle and the OpenWRT Backfire builds where it will basically brick the router when installed. Mine has the "A2 A0" hardware revision printed on the back and it is clearly labeled and recognized by the Buffalo stock firmware as a "G300NH" version, not "G300NH2".

I would agree with Shaz that there are two unique hardware versions of the G300NH. Even though both of them are officially called G300NH. And Buffalo stock firmware and DDWRT will work with either as is.
