Your results don't make any sense to me. Did you check the connections page to make sure that connections were being routed to the proper classes?

Also this result

Code: Select all

Link limit 1676
fair link limit 1700
link load 1660
ping (gargoyle) 51-250
filtered ping 63
Indicates the ACC is not working properly since it shows the downloads got throttled way back(to 20% of top end).

Yes you must enter a percent bandwidth. I might just make them the same for everyone. For instance each of four class at 25%. This defines how the network would look if all the PCs were downloading as fast as they could.

You ping should be controlled by the min bandwidth setting. This is the bandwidth you are guaranteed to get.

What is the CPU utilization on your router under load? If you saturate the CPU then that could explain such a result.

It's a netgear 3700 v2 so it really is on little more than tick over most of the time.

Just put acc back on, made the sharing 25% between the pcs and also took off the max bandwidth restrictions - this did improve it, though the connection would spike and as you can see its aggressively reducing the connection

These were some of the results over a period of a couple of minutes in order

** connections page checked and all seems in order - i'm just doing it on ip and they seem to be working correctly.
*** I have noticed a major lag spike in testing, still not nailed it down but it appears to hit the game - could be nothing todo with this (i.e a leagie of legends server issue)

You might try a different ping target. You can change the ping target by manually entering in an IP address of another target in the ACC section. You might try one of your DNS servers. By default it uses the gateway your ISP gives you.

Try a ping to these targets manually from your PC and see what their responses look like.

On my setup the ping limit is 90ms and it ranges as high as 200ms on the occasional basis. The downlink is never throttled more than 30% from the top end.

I'm wondering if the connection can't handle the data - I'm tempted to try a silly figure like say max 4k connection -is that possible?

I'll try the dns server as you suggest - I'll also try the game servers ip to see what comes from this

The lag spike I get is my main worry at the moment - just hope that's unrelated as it stops my game for about 5 secs

Do these screenshots help

As you can see its not under much load yet the ping is huge, if I do a test I can easily get at least 600k. NOte it didn't capture the dos ping window I had which was showing between 400-600ping

The ACC is stuck in the INIT state. This means the ping target you selected is not responding or you need to wait longer. Takes about 20 seconds for the ACC to initialize. Not sure what the issue is there but if you cannot get a good stable ping response around 30ms even at little or no load you need a new ping target. Seems like the previous target did better than this. Anyway make sure you get out of the INIT state.

If you turn off QoS and download a huge file like http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download
do you really get 8Mbps the whole time or just initially?

You can also try uploading a large file using http://www.toledorocket.com/perftest/up ... select.asp

Any even do both at the same time to see what you are really getting from your ISP.

Just one area I want to check before we pursue further - but can adsl handle QOS like this. Even when the load is 1000 (so in theory has 7k spare) I am getting poor pings.

Well mine does OK as I previously mentioned to you as do many other users I have worked with. In fact I would say that ADSL has a better chance then most other technologies of working with QoS to maintain the low pings.

Now what is particular about your setup I do not know. The real question in your mind is if your ADSL setup can work. That question only you will be able to answer.

Agreed, what I am not understanding is lets take acc out of the equation, even if I put say the max bandwidth to 4000, then I still find the pings are maxing out - so is that suggesting it's not going to work regardless of what we do - or am I misunderstanding how it works?

Out of interest it's still better than any other router I have had - but still isn't playable if it is 300 ping +

Well it is suggesting it but what about 2000, 1000 or even 500kbps. Did you try those? The test I suggest above would tell us what sustained download speed you really can get. Some ISPs throttle your connection once you try to use the advertised download rate for any period of time.

My connection is 1000kbps and I play games all the time.
