We can work trough the problem with you if you like but leaving it days between posts is a bit long.
My apologies, i've spent hours on this and it's wearing me down :-). I've also tried using the router as a wireless repeater with limited success (worked when plugged in to ethernet lol) and had problems with other configurations. I've never had this much problem with a router over so many different configs, so i think it's either the hardware or the firmware that's at fault. I'll install ddwrt and try again. Then i'll look for a new router.

I've got a TP-LINK modem/router
can you list all make/model numbers

diagram

e.g.

Code: Select all

Internet -- DSL-- DDwrt (()) Gargoyle (()) Client PC
-- = cable
(()) = wireless

Thanks

Its some much easier to see your set-up now

Unfortunately I don't have a Linksys WRT54GL to copy your set-up

I have seen some complaints about older routers with small amounts of RAM and flash sizes with the new backfire/gargoyle firmware

Have you tried 1.2.5?

No, I haven't. I've previously been using this router at several places as a basic AP, nothing else in the equation besides a modem and its wireless clients without issue. This was with the stock firmware, with DD-WRT and lately with Gargoyle. I installed Gargoyle for the bandwidth monitoring (why on earth haven't dd-wrt/tomato/etc gotten around to implementing one yet?) but in its new role, this functionality isn't needed. It sits constantly at around 90-95% memory usage. So, I might as well try less intensive firmware (like one of the smaller DD-WRT images) if I'm going to reflash.

@duckinferno

Try disabling your internet/wan setting. This is my setup on 1.4.2.

dsl -> esr9850 -> wr1043nd wired ap mode on single subnet.

Hope it helps.
