1043nd after firmware upgrade blinking...

Post by lightrevan »

After updating the firmware from 1.6.2.2 to 1.14.0, the router started flickering and not working via the web interface. It connects via SSH and allows me to run the command mtd -r erase rootfs_data... everything remains the same. Is there a way to fix this—downgrade or reset? Or something else?

If this is a WR1043ND V1, then it is likely that it is running out of memory at boot time and will not be able to run a modern version of Gargoyle.

Upgrading to 1.12 is about as far as you will get I think. Which of course is not recommended as you are running out of date firmware.
Your device has reached retirement. Sorry

To recover your device you need to load a firmware into RAM (via SCP) and flash it from there.
If your device has TFTP available, this should also work.

Thanks for your help!

Here's what I managed to do a little earlier:
1) I downloaded the firmware to /tmp using WinSCP
2) I used the command sysupgrade -v -n -F /tmp/gargoyle_1.12.0-...

After that, the web interface worked, and everything is stable!

*Yes, the device is outdated, but gargoyle_1.12.0 is better than the factory firmware.
