Hi,
I'M new about this, and I would like to know the advantages to use gargoyle vs openwrt or it is the same?
Also, your latest version is based on an older openwrt version right?
thanks

Re: info about firmware
Gargoyle uses OpenWrt as a base. Specifically Gargoyle is a simpler user interface for OpenWrt, with some additional features.
QoS
VPN (OpenVPN and WireGuard)
Bandwidth monitoring
Web URL monitoring and filtering
Quotas
Traffic restrictions
The latest beta (1.15) is based on OpenWrt 23.05, so we are about to be 1 version behind OpenWrt (as they are in the process of releasing 24.10).
It’s something you need to evaluate for yourself whether Gargoyle is best for you or not. If you want ease of use it’s great. If you want ultimate flexibility maybe not.
If you’re confident with the command line you can achieve just about everything you can in vanilla OpenWrt.

Re: info about firmware
Thanks, so if I compile by myself,.is it possible to add the packages I would?
Re: info about firmware
Sure if you want to do it that way.
Keep in mind that Gargoyle currently is still using iptables and fw3 for the firewall so if you're looking to bring in a 3rd party package that has already migrated to nftables you might need to go back a few commits.
