Hi,
I have an old netgear wndr 4300 running Gargoyle 13. Is it possible to set up this router or the Gargoyle settings, so that it runs as an IOT Gateway? Just really want to test it on version 13 then upgrade to 14. Would the Gargoyle settings be the same?
My reason is that I would like to use a Victron Lorawan to report the condtion of the Motorhome batteries Voltage, Temp, Solar input, current drain, etc However in the Lincoln (UK) area, there is very little in IOT gateways on the TTN nework
Many thanks
Theo

Re: Gargoyle Router as IOT Gateway
Can you provide more details as to what functions the IoT gateway has to perform?
If you need to connect sensors to it and have them read, then maybe? But you’re limited by what kernel modules are available and what custom scripting you want to do.

Re: Gargoyle Router as IOT Gateway
Hi,
As I mentioned I intend to purchase the Victron LoRawan module which can be found easily by seaching for it by name to see the details it will provide.
This will in turn connect to the MPPT for the solar which in turn is part of a bluetooth network with a leisure battery voltage/temperature module and also a current shunt module which also monitors the vehicle battery voltage.
I hoping the Victron LoRaWan could then connect to a local router on the IOT.
Thanks

That’s not really how this works mate. This is your project, I’m not going to spend a day reading and learning about LoRaWAN for you lol.
I don’t know what your level of understanding is which is why I’m asking your more questions.
Let me put out some statements that hopefully prompt your thinking in the right direction.
- lorawan and wifi don’t mix. You can’t connect them together. If that was your intention, think again.
- if your lorawan device or whatever has a LAN port, then yes connect it that way and figure out whether the device needs you to act as DHCP or not
- if your lorawan device does not have a LAN port, then you need some kind of gateway or a different device
- if your lorawan device has USB that it can communicate over then you need to figure out what Linux drivers are needed and what protocol it talks. Then that might be an option
I hope that helps. Unfortunately you are not going to get a direct answer here, this is a very niche use case.
