I would like to know if the mellanox mcx342 network card is compatible with gargoyle or if I need to install the drivers.

Most likely need to be installed.
Do you know which driver covers it? I can see:
kmod-mlx4-core
kmod-mlx5-core
I can’t see any other openwrt supported mellanox drivers.
