Forum search incorrect handling of version numbers

I was attempting to search for posts containing `1.12.0`, and the search tool keeps replacing the dots with spaces.
I tried double quotes ""
brackets[]
parentheses()
single quotes''
backslash escapes\. and backslash with quotes
If () are combined with another term like `fubar (1.12.0)` the result replaces dots with ors `fubar (1|12|0)`
+ in front of terms made no difference
