Questions on using Gargoyle

Post by sparhawk »

Hi,

I have a LinksysWRT54GL-DE currently. Now I have two issues.

First is, that the router seems to loose it's configuration frequently (it's now several years old), so I was wondering if I have to buy a new one. While considering this, I was pointed to this site and I as it looks this gargoyle project looks exactly what I wanted to have when I first bought this router. :)

Maybe somebody knows, can it be that this issue of loosing it's configuration is indeed a problem of age (maybe some flesh memory giving out?) or is this (maybe a known) issue with the firmware, I'm using 4.21.1.
If indeed the hardware is too old an I have to buy a new one, which one would be recommended? Or should I simply get the same one again (didn't check if it's still available so I might not find one anyway).
I was thinking of getting a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND. Would this be a good choice?

Now another question is, I found the WRT45GL to be supported by this project, but the -DE part was not speficically mentioned. I suppose it's still supported though, or is there some known issue with this? I also don't have a problem if the DE part is only because it's a german version to indicate that, but doesn't have any technical relevance and in installing Gargoyle it will become english.

And last, do I simply install Gargoyle on the router, just as I did the original firmware, or do I have to do some special installation to put it on top of it? And which architecture would I have to download?
