I suspect for the properly network savvy nothing I'm about to say will be news, I'm certainly no expert myself. But maybe my posting a how-to would be useful?
The kind of things I'm considering:
1) Home server running ESXi:
-Why?
-How?
-Other VM options...
2) DietPi:
-What is it and why?
-No, it's not just for the Raspberry Pi
-Installing to a VM
3) Pi-Hole:
-What's it for?
-Installing to DietPi
-Suggested tweaks and additions
-Here's a ready-to-go ESXi VM install if you prefer
4) Gargoyle:
-Setting your router to use Pi-Hole
I'm happy to get in to the weeds for a rather lengthy 'how to' but maybe that's too much? The obvious alternate might be:
-Here's my Pi-Hole VM
-It's up to you to trust me, or not
-Set this in Gargoyle to get it to work
...and leave it at that.
Thoughts?
