Gargoyle as a wired repeater

Post by chronosoft »

Hi there! I'm just wondering if this is possible, I have a billion 7401 router/modem that is connected to the phone line and I also have a WRT54GL 1.1 router with Gargole firmware loaded onto it.

Basically I want the Billion router to handle the internet connection (with it's wireless turned off) while the WRT54GL with Gargoyle to handle wireless connections (connected to the billion via ethernet cable)... I'm doing this because getting new housemates and it would be awesome if i could allocate everyone with a fair share of the bandwidth (yes we're metered here in communist Australia :P)

Thanks

That should not be an issue at all.

Just connect the WAN port of your WRT54GL to the Billion router.

Have the WAN port get DHCP wired connection

Configure the rest as Wired/wireless AP with its own set of IP range

Typically the 192.168.1.x range

Now - the tricky part is if you start using xbox 360's and PS3's

Thats when you have to start doing extra configs.

2x Engenius - ESR900 Stock 1.4.0 / OpenWRT Trunk 49400
