installing om fon2

Post by ggerard »

Hi there, I'm trying to install gargoyle on my new fon2 router.

What do I have? I am on 2.2.5.0. developer fon firmware, so I have ssh enabled and, suposedly, redboot enabled (I have not tested, I don't know how).

What have I done? To follow the instructions I've found in the forum

1) Install WinPcap (only necessary for windows)
- installed
2) Connect Fonera to your computer.
- with the WAN port, although I've also tried the LAN port (ethernet ports)
3) Power off Fonera
4) Start FonFlash
5) Select Firmware Type Gargoyle / OpenWrt
6) Select the ethernet device you are using
7) Select the Gargoyle .squashfs file as the root file

gargoyle_1.0.0_beta5-atheros-root.squashfs as the rootfs file
8) Select the Gargoyle .lzma file as the kernel file

gargoyle_1.0.0_beta5-atheros-vmlinux.lzma for the kernel
9) Hit the Start button
10) Power on the Fonera

And here I have

Reading image file C:\Documents and Settings\Usuari\Mis documentos\Downloads\gargoyle_1.0.0_beta5-atheros-root.squashfs with 2752512 bytes, rounded to 0x002a0000
Reading image file C:\Documents and Settings\Usuari\Mis documentos\Downloads\gargoyle_1.0.0_beta5-atheros-vmlinux.lzma with 720896 bytes, rounded to 0x000b0000
No packet.
...
No packet.
Peer MAC: 00:18:84:d0:23:34
Peer IP : 0.0.0.0
Telnet for RedBoot not enabled.

Now, what do I have to do??

Thanks in advance :)

I got the same error with my ubiquiti Bullet

I suspect redboot is locked and your going to have to unlock it

I have not tried this myself but I would use a serial cable

So, as I read here
http://www.gargoyle-router.com/install.php#fonera

If I have the IP in, e.g., 192.168.1.254 (as it is said in fon page), 255.255.255.0 netmask, and then do a ping at 192.168.1.1, once I plug the dc of the fon2 I should receive a response as soon as redboot is started.

BUT

I don't receive anything, neither I can do a telnet at 192.168.1.1 port 9000.

So the problem is that redboot is not enabled in fon2 router (is it true?), although the 2.2.5.0 DEVELOPER firmware is installed (and I can access by ssh, thus).

Anybody known how to enable it, or if I'm doing something wrong?? Thks!

i don't have a fon2 so i can't check

This web site says redboot is enabled?

http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/La_Fonera_2.0/zh

If all else fails get a serial cable

It looks like redboot is not enabled on the new fon2 devices -- you'll probably have to use a serial cable. See here.
