Web Monitor / Web Usage Logging...

Post by Dodgy Bob »

Hi folks,

Are there any differences with how and what is logged in Web Usage under Status between version 1.10.0 and 1.11.0 please?

I'm currently running 1.10.0 and don't know how "experimental" 1.11.0 is, so have not upgraded to it just yet.

Basically, I'd like to see ev. ry. thing. that is being accessed on the home network and I thought I had read in some other post that 1.11.0 now logs https requests (!?) but I can't find that post again - so maybe I am making that up!

Also, I am missing 2 days worth of logging (between 08-Sep 15:13:40 and 11-Sep 11:31:01) even though logging is turned on and the router was definitely up during that time.

So yeah, just wondering, even with 1.11.0 still in "Experimental" phase, would it be best to upgrade to it?

Kind regards,
Dodgy Bob

The differences are very big, especially the new architecture, see. news: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11898

Yes it does HTTPS sniffing. It can only determine the url, not the search terms for search engines.
This capability relies on SNI, which some organisations are pushing to encrypt, at which point we will be back to square 1.

1.11.x (not 1.11.0) is what I would recommend to most people.
1.10.0 has many security vulnerabilities that have since been patched.

Ahhhh, nice! Should have looked there first I suppose - sorry :?
That is a fairly extensive list!
Thanks @RomanHK

Thanks @Lantis for this extra information.
I have a Netgear WNDR3800, will 1.11.0 run fine on it?
Are there are any known issues / gotchas with 1.11.0?

Works fine. But like I said, you'd be better getting the latest 1.11.x so you get the latest fixes and features.
There are lots of these in between the major releases.

Ahhh, wasn't aware there were interim fixes/updates happening, don't know why!? Should have just taken it for granted there were. It was probably because I didn't see them listed through the main download page? That's slack of me :(

OK, so from the link you posted @Lantis, is the torrent download all builds and then I just pick the build I need out of the torrent?

The date of the torrent tells you which build it is, and it contains all routers and packages that were built. So you pick your file from there.
