tl-wr741nd restarts several times a day

Post by kurjak »

tl-wr741nd v1.7 with gargoyle1.3.9.
Successfully installed, set up, but i'm expiriencing several restarts a day. I have 4 wireless clients connecting using wpa2 and mac filter, qos up and down, congestion control. Memory used ~90%. I can't see what's the problem. What log should I send?

I have this model, and it is perfectly stable for me, uptime of over a week right now, which was the last time I flashed new firmware onto it.

My guess is that whatever is going on has to do with your QoS settings. It would be helpful if you could post a more detailed description/screenshot(s) of your QoS configuration here.

I also have the WR741ND (v1.9) and use Qos and the congestion controller. I have no reboot issues at all and have good stability.

Looking at your QoS screen the only difference I see is that I do not use the l7 marking. I can also tell you that this type of marking is horribly unreliable in the fact that it does not properly match. This just an unfortunate limitation of the underlying pattern matching technology.

I recommend that you use marking based on source/dest IP numbers and port numbers. For your phone that ought to be easy. For you bittorrent you might try the connection bytes as a trigger to shift the connection into the slow class.

You could also see if you are hitting the connection limit which might be related. Also you could disable the congestion controller and see what that does although I would disappointed if that was related.

You can look at the output of the 'logread' command and perhaps there will be something in that file that could help figure this out. Please post that as well and if you figure anything out on your own please report what you found.

is there a way to specify ip range, not just a single ip?
i set number of connections to 2048 instead of 4096. We'll se if it has something to do with it.

I think you should be able to use CIDR notation to specify IP addresses in your rules.

I don't really see anything unusual in your logread or dmesg other that it appears something is continually connection/disconnect to your router all day.

Update: not a software problem at all, ap case shrinks in cold weather (-15C) and keeps pressing QSS, removed button and now works great!
