How to Cap P2P streaming programs

Post by HolySafari »

Hi, i was wondering if Gargoyle is able to cap this p2p streamign program called ppstream
everyone time when my roomates use it it takes up practically the entire bandwidth.
the thing is that the program changes the port it uses everytime so it is diffiicult to block certain ports

can anyone help me?

Sounds to me like you have an issue of fairness to resolve and not to just cap his p2p streaming program.

You can use Gargoyle QoS to restore balance to your house.

Make two classes, each with a 50% share of the link. Then make a rule using the IP address of each machine. Such a setup will ensure that when the link is saturated each of you will get 50%.

When the link is not saturated you will get more.
Linksys WRT1900ACv2
Netgear WNDR3700v2
TP Link 1043ND v3
TP-Link TL-WDR3600 v1

WRT54G-TM

oh i see
can you point me to a past guide or forum with specific instructions cause i'm scared i'm screwing it up

cause i messed around with the QoS function so far and some times the setting doesnt' save

i think i figured out the QoS functions
is this right?
i set static ip for all my lan
then i classified different groups ( question, should i set a minimum and maximum? or is % fine as it is)
then i put them into different groups
tell me if i did it right?

and for the maximum upload and download speed it ask for i just entered the speed my service provides is that okay?

and another question for setting up wireless, i want to use WPA2-PSK and when i try to set a password and after the message " applying settings now" it always disables wireless and when i try to restart it, it won't it always goes back to disable wireless.

then i have to reset to old settings again

can you help me with those problems cause i don' want strangers getting access over my wireless

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... ?f=6&t=946

Check that thread and see if it helps you out.

Go step by step.

Recommend doing this.

Get your router working with everything EXCEPT QoS

Backup the config (in case you make a mistake)

Once you have a backup, then go and tinker with QoS

If it gets all messed up - reload the backup config file and start over.
