No internet access?

Post by Zman »

Hey guys.

I have 3.1.4 running on a MR3201A. I have got a billion 7800n and have set the MR3201A to be a wireless client + AP.

It has been working fine for 2 days till today i woke up and got no internet access of the gargoyle AP. (My gargoyle AP is running on a different subnet to my main network 192.168.2.1)

I have rebooted the device and my modem several times with no luck getting back on the net. I had to plug everything back into my modem in the mean time.

Any help?

As a side note also, i find sometimes that the WAP from the MR3201A sometimes disappears which forces my phone/comp to connect to another wireless then it comes back. But because of this its not connected to the MR3201A any more. Is this just a issue with 1.3.4?

A screen shot of your router status page while it was not working might point us in the write direction.
Linksys WRT1900ACv2
Netgear WNDR3700v2
TP Link 1043ND v3
TP-Link TL-WDR3600 v1

I have not had any previous reports of either issue you describe.

The first issue you report seems more concerning than the second -- I agree with pbix that I'd like to see a screenshot of your status page, and your network configuration, assuming you can reach the Gargoyle router itself (can you?). Also, can you access the Billion AP ok from another wireless device? If there is an issue with that, there's nothing I can do.

I will setup a router to test, and see if I can replicate this behavior you report of the client disconnecting after several days. Is the network the client is connecting to encrypted in any way? I want to try to replicate the same conditions that you were using when this occurred as closely as possible.

Hi Eric,

I wasnt able to access the device when that happened and had to resort to reflashing it to gain access again. I had control over the Billion and could connect wirelessly to it.

What i want to do is be able to connect my MR3201 via wireless bridge to my Billion and have the lan port to a switch for people using ethernet cables. I found that with the Mr3201 next to the Billion both signals suffer especially the MR3201. I had a 7DBI antenna and me sitting next to it i only got 1 bar on my iphone. If i disable wireless on the Iphone then enable again it goes to 5 bars then drops back to 1. This doesnt happen on the Billion.

I just tried to configure it so the Billion and the MR3201 would play nicely together.

This is using 1.3.4. After making the changes i can see the AP and its got 5 bars. But when i connect it goes from connecting to connected then connecting. I am not able to connect to the net or the MR3201 after that. I had to reflash to get it working again. (Zman is the AP for my Billion, could that be the issue?)

Im going to try this on 1.3.5 now

Am i doing this wrong?

I will try connecting via wireless bridge again.

Ok, I've been able to replicate your problem. The reason I couldn't reproduce the issue until now is that routed ap+client is working fine (which is what I thought you meant), it's just bridged ap+client (aka repeater mode) where there seems to be a problem. Bridge mode without the repeater active also seems to work ok -- it's just the activation of the repeater that seems to be causing issues.

I will definitely work to address this. However, in the mean time you can try configuring a bridge without the repeater active, or if you just need to give computers internet access but don't care about communicating with other computers on the network, you can use routed ap+client mode -- configure as a gateway, connect via dhcp(wireless) and then select ap+client mode under wireless options. Both bridge-only and routed ap+client seem to be working fine.

Hmmm.. I just realized I made a typo when I entered the repeater configuration the first time I was testing, and set the wrong gateway IP. When I fixed this, it started working fine.

Since the wrong gateway produced the same symptoms for me, can you please check this? Can you double-check that the Billion router's IP is 192.168.1.254 ? If not, enter the actual IP as the gateway and try again.

By the way, for testing on version 1.3.5, the reset button on the bottom of the router is now functional. If you need to reset the router to default settings, press this button and wait about a minute. The router will reboot and you'll have a router reset to the defaults without having to completely re-flash.

Hi Eric,

Yes the gateway is 192.168.1.254 on the billion.

routed ap+client mode
Hi Eric,

Do you mean in gateway or wireless bridge/repeater?

I dont think i understand the difference

Also would setting a different channel for the gargoyle AP fix this? Right now it uses the same channel as the AP the gargoyle is connecting to.
