WDR3500 support

Post by slippy »

wdr 3500 is well supported on openwrt and is a very affordable router for 40 dollars. So is it supported on gargoyle? why is there no precompiled version, can I compile it myself ? im assuming the option for 3500 not available for the compiling scripts, so what to do? why have the developers overlooked this gem? can I flash a generic firmware verion or what ?.

I have noticed others asking about this router have had no response, seeing how there is little activity on this forum I cant see why no one found the time to answer the inquiry .

Not officially.
why is there no precompiled version
see first answer. there are unofficial versions compiled in Polish if you'd like to try one. You should be able to load an english language pack after flash.

Yes.

If Obsy was able to do it, then it must be possible.
add it in yourself. You'll need to do some reading for that one.
why have the developers overlooked this gem?
I can't speak for the developers. But there are a lot of routers. It is not practically possible to test and/or support every single one.
Also 8MB of flash is now beginning to be a tight squeeze for future versions of Gargoyle. As more functionality is added it does get bigger.

ok ill try the polish one and see how it goes, thanks for the detailed response I really appreciate this info and am quit desperate to have gargoyle on this router as I really like the built in usage monitoring system I dont really see on other firmwares with these features especially the quota system and access restriction , glad to know that the project has future plans. I tried to look into implenting these in openwrt, ichecked out bandwidthd, darkstats etc but am concerned that with my limited knowledge I will not implement it in a dependable accurate way.

ok so i flashed the polish version from obsy and it had the option to switch to english as soon as I logged in via web interface,so far its been a day with no issues, this version is attitude adjustment though it had all the features I needed including built in 3g modem support that I am currently using as my wan .The quota feature is a must for this type of connection especially if many family members use it. Thanks so much for this tip I would have never found that polish site on my own!!

too bad a link to this version is not included in the downloads for gargoyle attitude adjustment, the wdr3500 is identical to the wdr3600(officially supported on gargoyle) except for it has 100mb ethernet instead of 1000mb and it has only port on its USB bus not 2. I am assuming this difference is why it is not automatically compiled for gargoyle.

Thanks again
