Chromecast

Post by AndrewMc »

Now to my next set up problem.

My phone can connect to and cast to Chromecast.

But I cant get my Windows 10 laptop to caste to the Chromecast on the network set up on Gargoyle.

Gargoyle has
- Current DHCP lease
- Connected wireless host
- Host with active connection

Hi is your PC on wifi? Do you have a guest network? What software are you using to cromecast? Do you have a software firewall on your windows 10 PC? Are the cromecast and the PC on the same subnet? Cromecasts can be a pane in the hole! :D
For casting from windows 10 i use crome browser. I can't get kodi to work and the new VLC is said to have support for castting, but i haven't used it. The cast function in windows 10 will onley work with MS mirror devices i think.

Yes, laptop on wifi - the 2.4ghz band. Software = whatever it is that teh Google Chromecast uses - none really it seems to settup throughthe Google Cast android ap. I just have windows defender on Win 10 Anniversary Edition. Not sure about the subnet (not sure how to check that bu tI think its all 255.255.225)

I use Google Chrome and it has the wee Cast tab top right corner. When I click on it it comes up with Lightbox Android Receiver (I've just cast a tv programme on Lightbox via my android phone, through teh router to teh TV.

So this laptop cant see the Chromecast. Also tried another laptop (on the 2.4 network) and it cant see it either = but if I hit the wee cast tab in chrome it does send it to teh TV with a "chrome mirroring Chrome Webstore Cast" in the window. This didnt happen before - and I used to have a Chromecast network come up went I was hunting for nearby wireless networks.

Think I might reset Chromecast and try that from scratch

Well, I can cast out of Google chrome web browser OK. Must be a Win 10 problem. Will explore that avenue further

For petes sake - I so frickin stupid!

I've been in and out of Gargoyke so often I had assumed my TV (as a device) was connected to the network. Duh! It wasnt.

FIX
Connect Smart TV to wireless network on 2.4GHz band
Set up Chrome cast on the same SSID
