It's really getting out of the scope of gargoyle.
I'm going to suggest you need to setup a test rig in your own house.
It's real easy with two gargoyle routers but only in one direction, and not in the direction you want.
Note: you really need 2 newer higher spec routers for openVPN
If I were you I would ring your parents ISP and get them to forward the correct ports to a gargoyle running openvpn server
Remote admin over satellite?

Re: Remote admin over satellite?
I have the new router that I'm taking to my parents next month at home at the moment. As you point out, I have a better chance of getting it work there than attempting things remotely.
Where I'm currently stuck is that I can't configure the gargoyle router as a client. If it's really easy, I'm sorry but I must be missing something something obvious. How am I supposed to configure the client router?
The ISP can't/won't configure for specific customers; they're using a /14 subnet mask = 262k clients in that one network.

Router Requirements
You will need an atheros ar71xx based router with at least 8MB of flash and 32MB of memory (e.g. TP-Link 1043ND, Netgear WNDR3700v1-2/3800, Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH etc.), for this feature to work.
Re: Remote admin over satellite?
Yes, I've read the http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... ertorouter page, but the 1.8.1 interface gives the impression the client config is entered directly. If the "configure new client credentials" appears under the server config I didn't see it. I'll check it out tonight/over the weekend, however I'd not seen the second page, and this is a bit of a show stopper: "If your router is configured as an OpenVPN client, per-IP bandwidth monitoring and per-IP quotas will not work. Quotas that apply to the whole network, and total bandwidth usage statistics will still be accurate."
The only reason I used Gargoyle was for the quotas. I have a number of IPs set for my mother's devices and the rest of the network for guests. That has to work, so if it's incompatible with OpenVPN then I'm wasting everyone's time. Sorry.
BTW, would it not be a good idea to have the wiki linked from the sidebar?
