TP-Link TL-WDR4300 does not accept firmware via TFTP

Post by surferzac »

So I've read all the news about TP-Link's kneejerk reaction to the FCC regulations and there were a ton of positive results 3-4 months ago using TFTP because the factory Web UI will deny you with a filename related error.

I've tried Gargoyle, DD-WRT, and actual TP-Link firmware all named as `wdr4300v1_tp_recovery.bin` and noted in my ftpd logs that they are successfully downloaded after doing the reset-hold power on.

From what I can tell, it downloads it, waits 2-3 seconds and immediately reboots. Are we completely barred from firmware changes via even TFTP now?
Firmware Version: 3.14.3 Build 151104 Rel.45874n
Hardware Version: WDR4300 v1 00000000

There's also a suggestion that adding the "US" tag to the header of the firmwares will circumvent some of these lock downs from the FCC. It's currently only available in trunk and i haven't looked into back porting to Chaos Calmer/Gargoyle
