Quotas at limits impact ping

Post by b17gsr »

My kids and their gaming consoles each have a daily un-throttled amount of bandwidth, and then speeds get capped.

My wife and I have all the bandwidth we want (or kids share).

I've noticed each time they hit their quotas, the ping test jump from 19ms to 190ms+.

What configurations should I change?

Can you give details of your quotas settings (and QOS if you use that)

We live in the country with a 6MBPS / 800kbps connection. Quota isn't being used.

Each kid has 2-3 devices with a combined max of 60Mb full speed per day before it throttles down to 125kB down / 40kB up. They are also restricted to have access from 9-21 hours per day. Each kid has their own block SK easy to lock out if chores aren't being done.

Gaming console is always limited to 150kB down / 25kB up, and full speed during off hours.

Smart TV isn't throttled, and Netflix is almost always on.

I think that's it. Thanks
