I love Gargoyle to control how much bandwidth each person in my house uses but there are a couple of issues I am having. Sorry if this has been posted before but when connect to the 5GHZ WiFi on the router, the maximum speed I am getting is 3.5M/s. On the 2.4GHZ WiFi, I am getting 20 to 25M/s. Is there something I need to set up to get the 5G working better? I have a TP-Link Archer router and the latest version of Gargoyle.
I am trying to have the 5GHZ set up for me and my kids can share the 2.4 but there seems to only be one password for both bands. I like having one set up for my kids and the other set up for my wife and I so I can disable the kids but still have Internet. Is there any plans to have each WiFi band to have its own password? It already has its own SSID so separate passwords would be nice.
Thanks

Your question about different passwords is covered here

You are free to set a different password on the command line
What is the exact version of the Archer router you are using? And the exact version of Gargoyle?

Re: Speed on 5GHZ
Righto.
So first things first, the AC functionality of your router isn't supported in that version. Again, it can be set through the command line, or you can upgrade to the latest 1.9.X where it is supported.
I personally think that it's going to be a bit difficult and a lot of double work tracking down performance issues without your wifi set to the fastest speed. So that is my first recommendation.

Re: Speed on 5GHZ
Thanks again.
I downloaded the file and found the image for my router. (I'm glad I had my cell phone since my Internet provider throttles torrents down to a max speed of 30kb/s). So, is this a beta version people are testing now? If I flash to this version, will I need to set everything up again? I know to use the Factory for the first time so I will use the other image to update.
As far as the password, I have no idea about the command prompt thing. This isn't a big issue but one I would like to look at some time. Having the kids on one frequency and my wife and I on the other makes shutting down the kids so much easier than IP Address filtering.
Sorry for being a newbie but I really appreciate the help.

Re: Speed on 5GHZ
It would be highly advisable to set it up again.
There are incompatible changes between the two versions which may or may not result in your router going into a reboot loop.
Which will then throw you into the deep end and accelerate your command line learning
Best to ease you into that I reckon?
Later today I'm going to write a tutorial on how to log in to the gargoyle command line. It's a topic that comes up a lot so it's worth doing.

Re: Speed on 5GHZ
Thanks again. I will do a full restore from scratch and set everything up.
I wrote many how-to's when I was part of a forum years ago. I know what it's like when the same question comes up. I spent a lot of time helping people so I know what you are doing for people like me. I really do appreciate all the help.

Re: Speed on 5GHZ
I am using Archer C7 here too and I would suggest you to downgrade to 1.8.1 which is the latest stable version of Gargoyle.Renn wrote:when connect to the 5GHZ WiFi on the router, the maximum speed I am getting is 3.5M/s.
I am able to achieve literally same internet speed as my ethernet using 5Ghz, i.e. 80Mbps but I am not using 5Ghz 802.11AC but simply 5Ghz 802.11n as the Gargoyle UI allows.
IMO, I don't see any point in even attempting to enable 802.11AC when my internet can't exceed what 5Ghz 802.11n provides
