Yep I have the same problem.

Cable modem --LAN--> PC ... 20mbit/s
Cable modem --LAN--> Gargoyle router (from Eric) --WiFi--> PC ... 4mbit/s

Would a better CPU and RAM help with speed? I am considering WZR-HP-G300N

Remember, Gargoyle is only supported on Wireless-G currently.

I think the WZR-HP-G300N is only running DD-WRT currently.

Also, the performance has been so-so - some like it, some hate it.

Research the forums in DD-WRT first.

According to this, WZR-HP-G300N seems to be supported
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start#buffalo

I don't mind it's G or N. Before I buy the router, I just want to know if a better CPU can increase the bandwidth over WiFi. Or the limited bandwidth caused by OpenWrt itself.

Even standing right next to AP the speed is only 1/5 of LAN cable speed. G is 54mbit/s and it should handle 20mbit/s at close range.

PC #2 connected via Wireless-G to the WRT54G-TM

Those are speed tests results I got over wireless

#1 was a 1 GB file test transfer from PC#1 to PC#2

#2 was internet speed testing done wireless.
