Cannot flash my WR1043ND v1

Post by ScoddyPippen »

Hey!
I'm new here and got a prob with my TP-Link WR1043ND v1 Router.
I got it flashed from original firmware to gargoyle version 1.9.0 in order to get the TOR functionalities working.
Unfortunately the TOR plugin does not show up in the plugins folder – as I read that may be caused by the low RAM (32MB) - so I added a USB swap drive partitioned with 200MB. But however that did not work either and the plugin is not listed in the plugins directory even after updating the list and the swap drive is in usage.

So I wanted to downgrade the gargoyle version to an other stable version as I thought, there would be the plugins available...
But from 1.9.0 I am not able to downgrade to another firmware now. I tried the 1.8.1, the 1.6.2 and also the modified original firmware (wr1043nv1_en_3_9_17-sysupgrade.zip).

Can anyone help? To mention - i am newbie :D

Stick with Gargoyle 1.9.0 for now and we should be able to get this issue sorted. Tor certainly works on 1.9.0.

Firstly, what happens when you click the Refresh Plugins button? How many plugins do you see? You mush have an internet connection to refresh plugins

It might be worth resetting Gargoyle using
Gargoyle - System - Backup / Restore - Restore Default Configuration Now
Can you help someone else get Gargoyle up and running?
TL-WDR3600 : Gargoyle 1.9.0 : NBN FixedWireless
TL-WR1043ND-V2 : Gargoyle 1.8.0 : 3G Huawei E160E

First "thanks to your reply"! ;)
When I refresh the plugins there are just 3 (installed) plugins listed, plus the english language file:
plugin-gargoyle-i18n-English-EN
plugin-gargoyle-openvpn
plugin-gargoyle-usb-printer
plugin-gargoyle-usb-storage

The router is connected via lan (as gateway) to the modem and has connection to the internet as i am wired to the 1043ND.

And I already did a reset to default configuration. Unfortunately no effort.

more details on your connection setup please.
Are you going through the WAN port?
You should see ~15-20 plugins after a refresh so your router thinks it isn't on the Internet. Which generally occurs if you aren't on the wan port.

That was the fault! After connecting the router through the WAN port the refresh of the plugins worked and I got all the plugins listed!
After using the usb as plugin root I was able to install the TOR plugin...
Do I have to connect it through the WAN port? In the years before it was connected all the time over one of the LAN ports to the main (modem) router...

Hi yes it's best to go from your modem to the wan port.
It makes things much simpler.
For a simple setup anyway.

The firewall on your router lookss at your wan port as the internet and is much stricter with traffic than on your lan ports all so your router will look to do dns over the wan port too. That was what was wrong wen plugged in to the lan port your router cant do a dns lookup for the website that hosts the plugins.

@Lantis Pleas put me rite if i get anything wrong.

Glad you got things sorted.

By the way give the adblock plugin a try i love it!
