Finally got it back to stock firmware. It is an exercise in patience, literally. I put the WNDR3700v4 in recovery mode and flashed it using tftp2 onto stock firmware - noticed the firmware was less than 8MB. Wait for 20 minutes while it cycles. Unplug it for a little while - suppose to be 1 minute but I went off to do something for 10 minutes. Plugged it in but did not look too good initially but after a while the green lights started coming on - i estimate up to 10 minutes.
