How to open ports to multiple devices?

Post by Musclethumbs »

I want to open ports for more than one IP. Can this be done? When I put in the port for the second IP, it tells me It's already used. Any way around this?

you might be better to use "UPnP / NAT-PMP"

Thanks for your response. I'm currently trying to get the new Call of Duty to work, it keeps saying my NAT is moderate on one pc and open on the other.

I've enabled UpnP. One computer seems to be fine, it's NAT is open. The other however seems to have a moderate NAT type.

How do i send the same port to multiple IP addresses?

Depends on your scenario.

If you wish to have two people playing at the same time on different devices, you'll need to have the game operating on two seperate ports. This can usually be set in game or in launch options.

If you want them only playing separately, then you'd just need to edit the rule every time. Inconvenient.

That's why UPnP is preferred.

It seems to to a little random. One pc is sometime gets a open NAT type. Then the other sometimes gets open NAT type. Using DMZ sometimes helps by the looks of it. But from what I've heard in the past, DMZ isn't the safest.

Could this be a issue with UPnP assigning the ports to the multiple ip's?

Call of Duty doesn't seem to have the option to change ports.

Or is there a way to enable DMZ for multiple IP's?

Forgetting any settings for now, if you launch the game and then head to
Firewall->Port Forwarding on your router,
Does it show any ports being automatically forwarded down the bottom?

What I suspect is that one computer is able to assign itself the port it wants, and the other cant, and so complains that the NAT must be restrictive (whether it is or isn't).
The game will have a range of ports and should self assign a new one.

I assume you are tinkering with these settings because the game isn't working?

It does show that the ports are being forwarded at the bottom. I guess maybe it's just the game having some issues?

Apparently the nat can cause you to not be able to find online games, so I've been tinkering with it for that reason.
