i think i understand your concern without a picture.
the percentages only apply when your link is completely saturated.

if no one is in the slow class then the number might as well be 100% in fast.
the same reverse logic applies.

as for the ping issue, i think that is a result of the QoS not being setup for its proper purpose. i'm not sure this is the best solution for you at this stage, so we can keep looking. If anything, it does narrow down that it is definitely the quota setting that is knocking you down.

Status update:
After 5 days I am happy to report that there have been no spontaneous reboots when I have configured the QoS method of throttling the bandwidth.
Not the best way to fully utilize the full bandwidth though.
I will be doing more testing but I do hope that this issue can be addressed and fixed in a later release. :)

Great job everyone, and thanks for all the advice leading up to finding the exact area of the problem.

Can you setup enable QoS both upload and download.
In each make One class called Throttle

Make the throttle class 1%
In the throttle class make the maximum bandwidth setting what you are trying to do in the quotas section (be mindful that here it is Kbps not KB/s).
Set the default class to normal.

Now on your quotas page, under throttling it should let you set it to a class instead of a speed.

See if that produces the crashes also. That is the only difference between my setup and yours and I wasn't able to reproduce your crash. In essence this achieves the same outcome as what you are doing, just a different way.

I certainly will try this method, and yes after the kids finish their homework... :)

I will report the results most likely in another 24 hours or so...

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to say thanks again for this workaround... :) It does indeed seem to do what I need it to do, kind of... :)

However, the root issue is still broken see below Quote:
dlogictech wrote:Hello All,

I may have found the area that causes the spontaneous reboot of routers when using the 1.7.x firmware.
I am currently using:
Gargoyle Version:1.7.X (Built 20150527-1912 git@7d816bd) - (I have also tried it with 1.7 and 1.7.1)
Model:D-Link DIR-835 rev. A1

Note: I was using the very same hardware and configuration manually configured with the older firmware 1.6.2 and it was running without any reboots for over 6 months.

Symptom:
Whenever I perform a speed test, the router would reboot. I have used http://www.speedtest.net and http://speedcheck.rogers.com/en.html
Usually the router would reboot almost everytime, occasionally it would not and you would have to do the speedtest back to back.

How to reproduce:
1) Configure your router with Quotas as shown by my examples below.
2) Ensure that they are all enabled.
3) Perform a speed test from one of the above sites.

Where I believe the root cause for this issue is in the "Firewall" - "Quotas" section.
My configuration that confirm this:

All Always 9GB/NA/NA
Max Total Up+Down: Limit to 9.5 GBytes
Quota Resets: Everyday
Reset Hour: 12.00 am
Quota Is Active: Always
When Exceeded: Throttle Bandwidth
Upload Limit: 64 kBytes
Download Limit: 512 kBytes

192.168.1.66 Always 1024MB/NA/NA
Max Total Up+Down: Limit to 1024 MBytes
Quota Resets: Everyday
Reset Hour: 12.00 am
Quota Is Active: Always
When Exceeded: Throttle Bandwidth
Upload Limit: 16 kBytes
Download Limit: 64 kBytes

192.168.1.67 Always 1024MB/NA/NA
Max Total Up+Down: Limit to 1024 MBytes
Quota Resets: Everyday
Reset Hour: 12.00 am
Quota Is Active: Always
When Exceeded: Throttle Bandwidth
Upload Limit: 16 kBytes
Download Limit: 64 kBytes

192.168.1.68 Always 1024MB/NA/NA
Max Total Up+Down: Limit to 1024 MBytes
Quota Resets: Everyday
Reset Hour: 12.00 am
Quota Is Active: Always
When Exceeded: Throttle Bandwidth
Upload Limit: 16 kBytes
Download Limit: 64 kBytes
I Sincerely hope and pray that someone can put some time and effort in addressing this issue, I certainly am trying to do my part in reporting any issues that I come across as well as helping others with troubleshooting their issues.

I believe that this firmware is one of the best third party options available not to mention much better that other commercially available options.

Just saw this topic after making my own.

Turning off "Quotas", which I had to put in because my room mate who moved in was using absurd amounts of Internet( I mean like 75%, fucker doesnt' even pay for itr)

Like in this thread, disabled, started download, went to the finish line without a drop. Full speed. Odd. I only had their connection limited by the IP of their Xbone.
