Is my Fon 2200 a Brick or Not?

Post by popearce »

I have a FON2200. After using FonFlash and successfully loading gargoyle_1.2.2-atheros-root.squashfs and gargoyle_1.2.2-atheros-vmlinux.lzma, FonFlash reports that my Fon has rebooted and it exits.
After reboots responds to my PING, ARP says the unit has an address of 192.168.1.1 but nothing else works, no ICMP, no WWW, no Telnet, no SSH. I can access Redboot for a few seconds during the boot process, which I did to run 'fis init -f', and then I loaded DD-WRT. Same as before, nothing! Flashing back to Gargoyle, no change.

I tried to run the config file and got errors AHB ERROR status_4 = 00000145

Help!

Get into Redboot and do the following

fis init -f

that will completely wipe everything except redboot and fconfig info

Once you do that, re-flash the Fon with Fon-Flash, but try and use
version 1.0.16

I tried flashing version 1.2.2 and my fon started acting weird and
I could not get into the gui even though it pinged @ 192.168.1.1

I went back to 1.0.16 and worked fine, no issues

If you can flash to 1.0.16 with fon-flash and it comes up in gui,
then go ahead and flash to 1.2.1 also with fon-flash
Use the 2 files for 1.2.1 atheros, not the combined image.

1.2.1 was the last good working image I used and my Fon
was working fine with it.

I'm good with 1.0.16 for now as I'm just using this for testing and
I don't ever use QoS or bandwidth monitoring/limits.

popacre: If I'm reading your concern right, you coudn't flash back to DD-WRT successfully. That, and the error message makes it sound like it might be a hardware issue in which case there's not a whole lot that can be done.

DoesItMatter: This is worrying. I've tested 1.2.2 on several atheros devices, and it seems to work ok. If you have the time, could you try again to see if you can replicate the problem with 1.2.2? If so, could you be as specific as possible about the symptoms you are experiencing?

Also, if anyone else has this issue, I'd really like to know about it.

Using 1.2.2 on my 3 fonera 2100 without problems. Tried flash .img via GUI with google crome....but never got it to work. Flashed all three with Fon Flash and they have been running without problems for a week now.

I'll flash again when I get home.

I went from 1.2.0 -> 1.2.1 via the combined image update through the web GUI. It upgraded fine. When I upgraded from 1.2.1 -> 1.2.2 same method, through web GUI with combined image, it failed.

I'll try re-flashing 1.2.2 to make sure it works, I'm thinking it was just a glitch, not the software itself.

-------------------------

Ok - fresh flashed the split kernel and rootfs of 1.2.2 with Fon Flash

Working fine this time, last upgrade through web GUI must have
gone bad or glitched out. When 1.2.3 is out, I'll try to upgrade
again with the combined image through the web GUI.
