Problem with using Fon Flash after bricking(?) repeater

Post by pieter888 »

Hello there,

I own a TL-WA850RE repeater.
Because of the device briefly disconnecting every 30 minutes I decided to look up ways of improving the device with some custom firmware. I stumbled upon this page:
http://blog.friedzombie.com/tl-wa850/
It told me everything I needed to do to install Gargoyle on my repeater. It worked fine, I had it installed, I could access the web-interface. So I set up the device to repeat the signal. Initially it seemed to work, the new network SSID popped up on the available wifi networks list. So I knew it was broadcasting something, but I could not connect to it. So I changed 1 setting. I changed "Connect Via Client Bridge" to "Connect Via WDS". Just to see if it made a difference.

And now it seems like my repeater is bricked, although I am not sure if that's the right term. I just can't access it anymore. Not trough the network ip I gave it (192.168.178.50) nor using a direct cable. I've tried the original/default ip it had and I've tried resetting it multiple times.

After some more research I found about Fon Flash that can be used to flash devices. So I plugged in the repeater, downloaded the files I needed (root & kernel) from this site: http://www.fonera.be/flash/
It's the one called "Original Fonera 2100 0.7.1.1 image".
After clicking the "Flash Router Now!" button it shows me the following text immediately: Reading image file D:\Downloads\a\rootfs.squashfs with 1572864 bytes, rounded to 0x00180000
Reading image file D:\Downloads\a\kernel.lzma with 524288 bytes, rounded to 0x00080000
Peer MAC: e8:94:f6:f1:14:35
Peer IP : 192.168.178.50
Your MAC: 00:ba:be:ca:ff:ee
Your IP : 192.168.178.0

The Peer MAC & IP seem alright, but my own credentials don't.
Also that's all that happens, the flash-button is still disabled, indicating that it's still being worked on, but no new text has popped up. it's like it's stuck. I've tried multiple times now and I've waited for over an hour.

As for my repeater, the lights still indicate it's working, the wifi-led is flashing like it's trying to connect to my main router, but it can't establish the connection properly.

I am lost on what to do now, all I really want is to be able to access my repeaters web-interface again so I can get it to work again.

Any ideas on why the Fon Flash program is not doing it for me?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I doubt Fon Fash with work with your router

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wa850re

Fon flash is for really old routers

It also only runs on XP or vista
