Slow network on TP-Link WR1043NDv2

Post by chmcke01 »

I just got my TP-Link WR1043NDv2 and based on comments on the internet I flashed the latest "factory" firmware for it from Gargoyle's downloads page and everything seemed fine...so I ran a speedtest on my old Linksys router that this is replacing and got 10 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.

I swapped over to the WR1043NDv2 and everything WORKS...but seemed slow so I ran a speedtest and I am only getting 0.5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The picture with the higher speed is connected directly from my laptop to the modem, the LOW speed one is connected from my laptop to the WR1043NDv2...it never actually finishes, at the start of the speed test it is about 2 Mbps down but then continually gets slower and slower. The screenshot I posted is about 15 minutes after I started the test.

I think I got a dud. I tried 1.6.0, 1.6.1, and 1.6.2 and reflashed multiple times with no change. I restored back to stock firmware (not the latest stock firmware) but still a no go so I put the latest stock firmware and had the same issue. Going to try to return it.

I fixed my problem which was related to DNS. With the OpenVPN app on my smartphone I assigned some DNS servers. After updating the new router firmware to 1.5.10 and after the app update, this wasn't needed anymore.
