Version 1.1.6

Post by Eric »

New in v1.1.6:
  • Ip Range Quotas now work properly
  • Multiple "other individual" quotas (for multiple time ranges) now work properly
  • If "other individual" quotas are active, and a host for which data has been saved has a new explicit quota defined, the "other individual" quota data for that host data will now be dropped

Hi Eric,
Thanks, it all seems to be working for me. My "phantom" quotas are gone :)

Not sure if it's just this version, but the bandwidth graph no longer "remembers" the IP address I have selected. It keeps the "IP" selection but reverts to the first IP address in the dropdown list.

I know I'm not using the fastest of routers, but I have noticed
some interesting speed differences in the newer builds.

1.1.6 recently loaded, seemed to run ok, but I thought it was running
slower than earlier builds, but chalked it up to slow internet speeds
or lag in searches because sustained speed seems to be similar.

I was getting a glitch in the time - it was showing dates of

12/31/69 or other weird dates

The time zone settings also were not sticking.
I would chose GMT-8 but it would still show GMT time.

Anyway, testing backup setting sizes, I flashed back to 1.0.15

Wow... big difference in browsing speeds.
Time/date/timezone all working fine

Also, noticed that there is about a 14K difference in file size
between 1.1.6 and 1.0.15 backup settings. Must have a LOT more
options in the new 1.1.6 and backing up much more items.

Is it still safe to restore earlier backups to the new firmwares?

I always enter my settings in from scratch myself, just asking
for the benefit of other users that are probably loading backups.

Did anyone else see this issue with the time? I've tried, but can't replicate it. If there's something going on there, that's a rather serious problem and I'd like to fix it....

With respect to browsing speeds: How many ips are on your network? The more IPs it has seen the slower it may get, since it has to keep track of them. This may be part of the trade-off for automatically doing per-ip monitoring. Also, I bet if you installed a fresh 1.6, on a network with only one or two hosts connected, you wouldn't see an issue... try it and let me know, if you can... (you've said before you're happy to test stuff).

Is anyone else seeing a significant performance penalty on more recent experimental releases?

OK...

Finally had some time to do this!

Fresh install of 1.1.6 - no time glitch - not sure what happened before.

I usually only have 1 or 2 IP's on the Fon since its a tester router.

Web pages seem fine now, maybe when I loaded it before, was a
slow network day for the internet, or the sites I was testing were
just not responding well.

I have not yet used version 1.1.6, but have experienced similar problems (mainly slow internet, having to re-load pages multiple times etc.) when restoring a configuration after flashing a new version.

If I re-flash the same firmware and setup the settings manually then it works fine. I have done this multiple times and am absolutely certain that it is repeatable (i.e. it always "breaks" when I re-load a particular saved config).

The unusual thing is that the router was working fine when I did the "save config"...

Eric has made a LOT of changes and the settings have increased.

I'm now wondering if its safe to do that or better to start fresh?

When I fresh loaded 1.0.15, all I did was setup the password
and the time-zone, and then went to backup the firmware.

The file size for the backup was about 55K

I just fresh flashed 1.1.6 and did the same thing, only settings were
the password and time-zone, then backup the firmware.

1.1.6 has a config size of 76K

So definitely a lot of changes. I understand people want to keep
the bandwidth data and usage history, so I'm not sure if there is
a way to do a work-around or maybe only backup the bandwidth
stuff seperately so that can be reloaded on its own?
