I own a WRT54G3G and would like to make use of Gargoyle to limit the bandwidth used so I don't have to pay extra fees to the provider (I have a 3G card that only includes a certain amount of gigabytes).
My original plan was to connect the WRT54G3G to a different router (like WRT54GL) and install Gargoyle on that second router. But now I'm seeing that you guys have a binary image for the G3G on the server.
Question: Does the image for the WRT54G3G really preserve the 3G functionality (I've read that with OpenWRT, the ability to use 3G cards actually get lost). And if 3G cards still work, will it also be possible to cap the traffic from the the 3G card?
Thanks (for all the hard work put into the software), and thanks in advance for the help!
Yeah I suspect that the reason that you got no response is that no one knew the answer for sure but in general its a pretty safe bet to say that if something does not work under OpenWRT then it will also not work on Gargoyle.
I myself have not heard of a router that will accept a 3G card before. Looks interesting for folks that do not have any other options for and ISP. What will they think of nex
Your other idea of using a WRT54GL with your WRT54G3G should work though. Although for the same price as a WRT54GL you can get a WRT54G-TM which has more flash.
What happened when you but Gargoyle on the 3G router? Did everything else work except the 3G function?
