openwrt first time login

I installed openwrt installed on TL-WR841N & then on TL-WR740N as gargoyle wasn't working, but it is asking a password on logging or first time with user root/system on putty as web interface is not accessable.
Plz help me out as I tried may passwords & also left it blankb but there is no way in..?

type passwd into the prompt. You will be prompted to set a new password for the user root:

thanks for your tip but the problem was that I was logging with SSH protocol, when I used telnet I got what I desired,
and i love gargoyle but sometimes we are forced to use open wart when gargoyle do not work or vice versa
