Gargoyle 1.6.1 Version confusion

Post by rsm.gbg »

Hi,

I'm looking into installing Gargoyle 1.6.1
I'm a bit confused about versions.
Is 1.6.1 based on OpenWRT Kamikaze or Backfire?
Quote:
Installing the firmware onto your router is probably the trickiest part of using Gargoyle. There are basically two ways to do this. You can either

(1) install OpenWrt Kamikaze and then install Gargoyle as a set of packages on top of it, or
(2) install one of the Gargoyle images directly onto your router.

Note: Gargoyle is now based on Backfire and theoretically installing as a set of packages should work, but it possible it may not.

And all docs talks about Kamikaze!
What is the correct version?

Next question.
I have Backfire 12.09 installed on my Netgear WNDR3700v1.
I tried to flash Gargoyle 1.6.1 using the OpenWRT GUI but it tells me the gargoyle_1.6.1-ar71xx-generic-wndr3700-squashfs-factory.img is invalid?
"The uploaded image file does not contain a supported format. Make sure that you choose the generic image format for your platform. "
Do I have to flash the Netgear firmware first?
Could I use the install Package method described above? (if it is Backfire)

Keep up the good work.

Oh, I can't even read properly...
I have AA 12.09 installed.
So Gargoyle is based on AA 12.09?

But I can't flash my WNDR3700 with AA 12.09 installed with Gargoyle as it says the image is invalid.

Is it possible to do the package installation of Gargoyle?
or is flashing back to netgears fw the only way?

Sorry for the confusion.

Is it possible to do the package installation of Gargoyle?
No, not from my understanding

very early versions of gargoyle the answer was yes.
