Hi,
I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to intermediate releases and I have tried to search the site/forums for an answer.
I recently installed V1.6 on a TP Link WDR4300. All went well. Great firmware thanks to all involved.
I now want to try this release. Do I use the factory or upgrade version of the firmware?
Thanks
kip

Usually "upgrade file" using the gargoyle gui

For more details see the openwrt wiki on your device

I've been running 1.5.11 on a TL-WDR4300 v1.6 for a few months and had no problems except for a very short 2.4Ghz range. Looking through the OpenWRT changelog I noticed the following:

change 39408 AA: ar71xx: fix bad RX sensitivity on newer TL-WDR4300 boards

Based on this I did a test install of Ispyisail's 15-Mar-2014 release which incorporates the OpenWRT fix. This version does resolve the WDR4300 range problem - I can now get good (> 100Mb/s) connectivity throughout the whole house rather than in just in a few rooms as before.

To answer kipsta's upgrade question, I used the Gargoyle GUI to upgrade using the "upgrade" (not factory) image and checked the "preserve options" checkbox.

Thanks to the Garygoyle team and to ispyisail for the interim builds.

Thanks ispy & spwalmley.
I tried installing the upgrade however it never started. I have V1.7 of the WDR4300 and I noticed over at openwrt there are a few issues depending on which AA version is being used in the firmware.
So for now, I'll stay with V1.6.0
