This is odd, seriously.
Today I found out about Gargoyle and how awesome it is (after getting pissed with DD-WRT flaws).
So I read all required Gargoyle's docs, confirmed OpenWRT compatibility with my router (TP-Link TL-WR842ND v1) and downloaded gargoyle_1.5.11-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr842n-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin.
Then, on the current DD-WRT version on my router (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/13) std - build 21676) I went to Administration -> Firmware Upgrade -> kept the "Don't reset" option selected, chose the file on my hard drive to upgrade to (Gargoyle version mentioned above) and hit Upgrade.
Everything seemed to go fine, no errors, smooth as silk, and then, after the reboot got an IP address and all, as expected, right?
But... ah, BUT, when I connected to http://192.168.1.1, guess which firmware was running on the router? YES, DD-WRT is still there.
Tried a couple of different combinations, like instead of using Chrome to do the upgrade, use Firefox, changed the option to after flashing, reset to default settings. Nope, didn't help.
I mean, how can this even be possible?
Help, please! I need to get rid of DD-WRT sooner rather than later (tonight?)
Thanks guys.

I guess revert to stock & then use a factory.bin image to go to Gargoyle.

Thanks!
I was able to install Gargoyle going from DD-WRT to DD-WRT webrevert (which is actually an "older" version of the stock firmware as provided by TP-Link) and then, upgraded to the latest TP-Link firmware version. From there, upgraded to Gargoyle.
I used the word "upgraded" in bold in the previous sentence because I mean it. I've been using alternate firmwares on my routers for some time now (Tomato, DD-WRT, etc.). But now that I've installed Gorgoyle, I can securely say: it is without a doubt the best firmware I ever had (for my purposes, at least).
I just need to learn a little bit more about it, but so far, so awesome!
