Problems + Solution when Flashing La Fonera FON2100

Post by ngg.online »

I recently bought tow cheap FON 2100 routers from Ebay with stock firmware and decided to used them as repeaters with the Gargoyle firmware. However, I found out that the installation guide did not work quite well form me. I believe some steps are missing.

After unlocking the devices as described here http://bingobommel.blogspot.com/2006/11 ... rt-ii.html I was able to get an SSH access, but no matter what I tried I could not telnet any of the routers @ 192.168.1.254:9000 nor use the Fon Flash application properly. However, after applying Step 3 - Install enhanced FON kernel,Step 4 and Step 5 - Access the RedBoot command prompt as described here http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/LaFone ... e_Flashing I was immediately able to flash both routers with Fon Flash.

I don't know if anyone else experienced these problems, but this is my solution and worked quite well for me. I believe that the installation guide should be updated to include these steps, it will save a lot of time for other new Gargoyle users.
La Fonera Fon 2100 @ 200MHz + Gargoyle 1.2.5
D-Link Dir-300 @ 200MHz + Gargoyle 1.2.3
Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 + Tomato 1.28
