Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
Hello all,
Ive had a quick search of this forum regarding my problem. A few people have had this issue but it appears they have not been resolved.
I have a Netgear WNDR3800 wireless router, and have installed Gargoyle 1.5.10.
I set up the bandwidth quota for a device, such as my phone, so that it will throttle the bandwidth to 100Mb/s when the max download exceeds 5Mb. I picked these figures for testing purposes to prove it works.
I then operate my phone and load a youtube video that will exceed the 5Mb quota.
Instead of throttling to 100Mb/s (which is a number much faster than my internet speed, effectively not throttling my download at all), it instead disables all internet, and when i try to open any webpage such as google or wikipedia, it redirects to the Gargoyle site, prompting for my login details.
I dont believe this is right. What can I do to fix this? I originally tried 1.5.9 and had this issue, so I updated to 1.5.10 hoping it would fix it.
Cheers,
Adrian

Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
Yep I have the same issue with 1.5.9 on a TP-Link router.
I have three Quota groups, no QoS, and once the user hit the limit, they lose all internet instead of being shaped back to 128Kbps.

Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
Please post a screen shot of your Quota page. I am not aware of any problems with Quotas.

Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
Just to confirm I am getting the same lockout error as Adrian when the quota is all used up.

Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
How about set the the 5MB limit at Max Total Up+Down . Set the upload limit at throttle bandwith same with download limit ... 0 Kb/s upload limit maybe make you cannot send any data out from ur device i guess.
Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
I tried to reproduce your symptom without success. My computer is correctly bandwidth limited when the total quota is reached.
But something seems wrong because the quota status screen you showed shows '100%' in the download column. Since you are only using total quota in your rule it should be in the "% total used" column.
Are you sure you pressed the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the Quota screen after you changed your Quota? Looks like maybe your new quota is not saved and the router is still working with an old qutoa.
Anyway I asked Eric to look at this, He is the developer of this. Hopefully he will stop by soon.

Re: Throttle Bandwidth not functioning
I've managed to reproduce this bug and committed a fix.
There's a fairly simple workaround until the new version comes out:
(1) Disable quotas with shaping
(2) Enable Full QoS (either upload or download)
(3) Disable Full QoS
(4) Re-enable the quotas with shaping.
There's a state the router can be in where it THINKS the Full QoS is enabled, and thus doesn't enable the Quota specific QoS, even though the Full QoS is not in fact enabled. Manually enabling it (and saving), then disabling it (and saving) solves this problem.

Thanks PBix and Eric,
I will do this when I get home tonight and let you know the outcome.
