TL-WR940N kernel panic

Post by regor »

Hello,
I was using Gargoyle 1.5.10 on TP-Link TL-WR940N ver1.2 (using WR941Nv4 fw) as Wireless bridge. Router was working fine but suddenly when a device connected to LAN, it has been rebooting.
I had opened the case then used PL2303 USB-TTL adapter to enter failsafe mode. And here is the log.

connect to the router via a wired connection.

If you can access the web gui, try to restore to defaults on the System -> Backup/Restore page

If you can't, enter failsafe mode: http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe and use the mtd erase command.

If you want to flash to openwrt, you can also use the netcat method at this point. See http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.sysupgrade

When router connected via wired connection, kernel panic occur. So I cannot reach webui, ping, netcat etc. :(
Tried the mtd erase command, rebooted the router. Still have the same issue.

Right, sorry, try to restore to defaults via a wireless connection.

Your only other option is failsafe mode. You need to have a wired connection for that.

You entered the mtd command in failsafe mode & it didn't work - you still have kernel panics?

How do you know you had a kernel panic in failsafe mode? It only boots to a certain stage & waits - then you telnet in & do the dirty deed. If you had a working telnet connection, then you can netcat a known working firmware or switch to OpenWrt.

Wifi is not working.

Sure but when the wire is connected to WAN or ETH port, kernel panics then router does not respond

You entered the mtd command in failsafe mode & it didn't work - you still have kernel panics?
I have upgraded firmware to Openwrt by Kermit RS232 method. Still have kernel panics.

How do you know you had a kernel panic in failsafe mode? It only boots to a certain stage & waits - then you telnet in & do the dirty deed. If you had a working telnet connection, then you can netcat a known working firmware or switch to OpenWrt.
I am connected to device with Serial adapter. Because of both wired and wireless connection aren't working, I am not able to use telnet, netcat, tftp etc. commands.
