Invalid password

Greetings to all,

I am unable to logon to gargoyle management interface. Although I did not change my password all of a sudden it says invalid password. I have netgear wndr3800. I reset to factory default and telnet to the router, set root password and entered reboot command but it did not reboot. I then shutdown the router but it came back with the same invalid password error. I pushed the reset button again to start the router in tftp receive mode and tried to tftp to flash it with latest gargoyle firmware but it failed. I am obviously missing something. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Thank you. But that didn't help. If I run reboot -f without changing password it reboots but if I change password and reboot it just shuts down. In bot case I got invalid password error again. Thank you.
