WRT54GL Tomato 1.25 > Gargoyle

Hi

This is my first topic on this forum, it is dificult situation for me because I`m form poland and English is not my primary language but my point is that I have Linksys WRT54GL router with installed tomato 1.25 and I am very happy witch this firmware. Tomato is realy good firmware but when I saw gargoyle for the first time on the screenshots I saw a lot of option what I want to have in my router and I need this so much. So haw can I install Gagoyle on my device properly ?

Second problem is that I dont know linux, it means I know haw to install and use it on my computer but comand line is not this what I like.

In my network I have 3 x Computer, Linksys Pap2T (VOIP) and nBox Recorder over Ethernet and 3x Mobile Phone and iPod Touch over WiFi.

Is Gargoyle the best firmware for me ? I think it is, because it have every think what I need and every think what I dont find in Tomato, what is your opinion abaut garfoyle for me ?

Check that page for the information on how to install Gargoyle.

If you are happy with Tomato 1.25, but want to try Gargoyle,
try and backup your settings for Tomato before changing.

That way, you can always put Tomato back on and reload the
config if Gargoyle doesn't do what you want.

If Tomato has a way to upgrade via Web Interface, you should
be able to upgrade to Gargoyle from the GUI, however, I have
never used Tomato, so can't help you there.

Can I use gargoyle_1.0.7-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx file for a first time ?

If you're installing from tomato you can use the .trx file. If you are installing from the default linksys firmware you will need to use the .bin file appropriate for your router, and then upgrade to the more recent version (only available as a .trx), using the upgrade utility included in Gargoyle.

Yes, I use Gargoyle firmware on one of my routers.

Listed below are the routers I have and the firmwares I test.

Remember, the disclaimer is always present for any firmware.

There is always a risk flashing different firmware on a router.

Its always possible to recover a router, but flashing new firmware
always has some kind of risk. That's part of the fun of flashing
the different firmwares to different routers!

Can I turn of internet acces for one or more computer in my LAN network on this firmware ?

It means I want to have acces to my lan network but I don't want internet acces on this computer. Is it possible ? how to do it ?

You can do this on the firewall/access restrictions page. You just indicate the ip of the machine you want to block in the "rule applies to" section, and set it to block all network access.

The restrictions only apply to internet traffic. You should still be able to access your local network if "block all network access" is checked.

Backing up is of course a very good idea, but Tomato uses NVRAM to store its settings, while Gargoyle (Openwrt) uses the file system, so you may be surprised to find that if you try Gargoyle then go back to Tomato, all your settings are retained.
