TL-WR1043ND v1.8 hardware
Gargoyle 1.5.6
Windows 7
IE 8
[I am new to Gargoyle (about a month) and have searched hard for some hint of this in all forums without success, so believe this is a new issue.]
If I restore a configuration which was backed up while wireless was enabled - "Access Point (AP)" in my case - the wireless service disappears completely after the restore. If the backup was done while wireless was disabled, I can restore OK and enable wireless and all is good.
In the failed state, no amount of disabling, saving, cold starting and re-enabling of the wireless has worked. I've had to re-apply gargoyle firmware and start fresh to fix this in each case.
Have proved this with two different TL-WR1043ND v1.8 hardware routers.
Steps to reproduce:
- router and PC/laptop connected directly by Ethernet, no wireless or other networks connected
- get router working with its own firmware OK and see wireless OK (scan from a wireless device and see the SSID and connect
- install Gargoyle 1.5.6
- enable wireless. For the record, I used default AP settings:
N+G+B, 20 MHz
Max power
Mac filter disabled
11-char normal alpha-only SSID
channel 11
WPA PSK
SSID broadcast on
client isolation disabled
(Have also proved this issue happens when not using encryption at all)
- from client device, scan for networks, see and connect to AP
- backup Configuration to file
- power off gargoyle router and power on again, and see AP still good
- restore configuration just backed up
- AP disappears; can't see it from client devices etc.
- check config, and it all looks normal
- disable AP and save settings
- power off and power on gargoyle router
- re-enable AP
- still no go (WAN light on router never blinks, ever)
- restore gargoyle firmware without saving settings
- enable AP and test connection (all fine)
- disable AP and save settings
- backup configuration while Ap disabled
- put Gargoyle 1.5.6 on fresh, wiping all settings
- check AP is disabled (that's the default)
- restore Gargoyle configuration from the backup done while Wireless was disabled
- manually enable AP and all OK
I would be very interested to hear from others with this experience or similar.
Would also be great to hear theories from developers as to what casues this

I am looking to "package" a Gargoyle solution to customers, providing hardware and setup. It is advantageous to me to be able to save most of the DHCP setup (I create a block of 10 mac addresses and IPs for each of 6 "Users" to cover the avergae household, and also some generic access restrictions. This takes 2 hours manually, so being able to restore this basic config is critical!
Thanks all.
