Firmware upgrade over wireless

Post by jon.little »

Hi

Is it possible to upgrade firmware over a wireless connection?

Is Gargoyle's wireless feature on by default?

Cheers

Jon

It will never be recommended to update any firmware through a wireless connection. There is a much higher risk, that you will end up with a bricked device.

What I do, is to remote control my server. and update the router through that one.
That way I am able to do it from the living room, without risk.

If you use this hack, you will be able to use the wireless connection when upgraded: http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... =13&t=1736

I think a web upgrade program that displayed the md5 checksum would be interesting. After the firmware is uploaded, it could simply be computed and displayed, and ask you if you are sure you want to do the update. This pretty much would eliminate a chance of wireless corruption, as long as I know if the checksum is correct.

Or that you would need to upload two files... both the firmware and a text file with the md5 text string... if they are equal, it will do the upgrade...
