Need help to install Gargoyle on Archer c7 with 3.15.1 Bu

I just update my tp-link to
3.15.1 Build 160616 ~ ~ Which i just read about it later that it have problem I'm try to roll back it does not work.

I want to install gargoyle firmware on this router but always get code 18005 not allow to install any firmware.

I'm try TFTP Recovery Nothing happens when I'm try hold the reset/WDS button during power on no communication between TFTP

Any suggestion . Thank you took me 2 hour and still cannot find the answer

Hi mate you need to flash to ddwrt first heres a link:

After you flash ddwrt then you can flash to Gargoyle 1.9.1

Plese Don't flash anything but 1.9.1 or you mite end up with a brick 1.9.0 dus not have the patch for the latest flash chip in the latest c7s

I cannot flash by web UI it always give me error 18005 to any firmware i try
even DD-wrt US.

I'm stuck with this firmware . Thank you for your suggestion

Sounds like you have a firmware with a locked down country file.

LEDE has an image for EU routers, but I believe it has no GUI. So while it will fix your problem, you'll then need to flash Gargoyle from the command line.

Thank you Lantis it work well i will post instruction in case some one have in same boat with me

1. First This are the file you need (I put all file in desktop for my convinient)
- Putty.exe
- Gargoyle /DD-wrt to factory/ Any firmware you want
- Lede project firmware (For EU 3.15.1 Build 160616)

2. After have all of the file let's login to the router normally with webUI that you normally get 18005 error code. Then upgrade it with Lede firmware in the link. Now you should out of the problem with stock firmware that not allow you to go to other 3rd firmware.

3. But the problem is LEDE project don't have web UI. So for me i use the putty to login
Host : 192.168.1.1 (Default for LEDE project)
Then it will ask for the username. Just use root that all. LEDE normally don't have password setting now.

4. Now for me I'm try to ping see if my router work (8.8.8.8).The router should work fine now. Actually we can flash through the command but for me i prefer through web UI. So now let's install web UI for lede project firmware with following command

4.1: type this command: opkg update (This should download some file for a while depend on your internet speed)
4.2 after finish download first one type this command opkg install luci-ssl (Wait for it to complete install the webUI for you)

5. Now close the windows that use putty to open and try to open webUI with your browser you should get standard Openwrt WebUI login.Use root as username and leave the password blank. Then go to upgrade firmware. At this point you can flash to any firmware you want from LEDE-project. You can flash to DD-WRT/Gargoryle / Stock firmware before locking firmware happens


Hope this help the people who make the same mistake as me. Now enjoy your Archer c7 v2 again ^^

I have thought about back porting the US/EU fixes to Gargoyle, however by the time I was finished we would be about due to update to the next version which would automatically get the fix anyway.

I was hopeful when I saw your relatively simple instructions for getting gargoyle on my TP-Link Archer C7 V2 US, currently at 3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n but even with the LEDE firmware, my router still stubbornly gives the 18005 error. I have tried renaming the bin file to "Archer_C7_V2_151017_US.bin", since it seems to be complaining about the filename, but no joy.
I've also tried both of the gargoyle v2 bin files, but neither of those worked either, even with different file names.
I JUST bought this router to put gargoyle on it, because it seemed like one that had nice enough hardware that I would be able to use it for a few years, even through possibly some firmware upgrades, but I am Super unhappy with TP-Link pulling this lock-in garbage. According to what I read on amazon, they only accept computer returns for DOA items, which really doesn't help. I was figuring after I modified the firmware I wasn't going to be able to return it, but I can't even do that.
Any ideas anyone?

Did you use the US version instead of the EU version (available at the same link)?

ah, no; I did not use the US version. I clicked on the link to download it, and figured that going European was part of the magic to make it work.

Glorious success! I have LEDE now and am working through the process to Gargoyle it! Soon, I may be able to see which computer is cluttering up my bandwidth and throttle back those kids' netflix streams.
