WZR-HP-AG300H - Supported?

Post by Seena85 »

Hi,

I am a little fed up with DD-WRTs chaos. This here seems to be better. Is my router "WZR-HP-AG300H" supported? Somebody wrote they did it succesfully: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=682&p=20402&hilit=AG300H#p20402. It seems also be supported by OpenWRT 12.09 Attitude Adjustement: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/buffalo/wzr-hp-ag300h

Is that maybe too risky though?

thanks,

Sina

Thank You. I was just wondering because it was not listed in the "supported routers". Also OpenWRT says "Attitude Adjustement" is supported, shall I maybe not install 1.7, but 1.6 Gargoyle? Thanks for your help.

Hi i think the bit about support on the openwrt wiki is to let you no wen support was added, so i think 1.7.1 will be OK.

Hi Seena85,

I have the same router model and installed 1.7.1 on it.
It's been up for 4 days without any issues.

awesome. How did you flash it? I have DD-WRT on it now.

Thanks.

Hi Seena85,

I used tftp the first time I flashed it. It's on the first link on your post.
Just follow the link, I'm the one who made that post.

Thanks guys. I was able to flash the system from DD-WRT and it runs like a charm. I used the following steps from the OpenWRT Wiki for Buffalo WZR-600DHP which uses the same firmware.

What you need to do is:

1.) Load the OEM web interface (192.168.11.1, admin/password) from a DHCP configured computer
2.) Click the Administration → Commands tab
3.) Enter the command "wget -P /tmp http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download ... pgrade.bin" and press the "run commands" button. This will download Gargoyle to the /tmp directory. You need to update the url of the download accordingly.
4.) Verify that the file was downloaded by running the "ls -al /tmp" command. You should see the "gargoyle_1.7.1-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-ag300h-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin" file listed in the directory contents. You can also do a "md5sum /tmp/gargoyle_1.7.1-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-ag300h-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin" and compare the output to the MD5 number on the downloads page.
5.) Run the "mtd -r write /tmp/gargoyle_1.7.1-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-ag300h-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin linux" command to flash the new firmware. This will take a couple minutes to write to flash and automatically reboot. During the flashing process you will get some output to your web page including "Unlocking linux … Writing from /tmp/gargoyle_1.7.1-ar71xx-generic-wzr-hp-ag300h-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin to linux …" you will also see a solid red "DIAG"-LED
6.) Once the "DIAG"-LED begins flashing check your PC to see if the DHCP address of the PC has switched to the OpenWrt address of 192.168.1.x
7.) Once your PC has a 192.168.1.x address you can load the Gargoyle web interface and complete your configuration, when you load the page the first time the "DIAG"-LED should stop flashing and go out.

Hope this helps other users.
